Cytogenetic Studies in 34 Patients with Down Syndrome


Abstract
Down syndrome is most common chromosomal abnomality among the mentally ratarded.
The purpose of this study is to investigate the cytogenetic characteristics of Down syndrome in Korea. For this study, the selected were 34 patients who were diagnosed as Do syndrome by the chromosomal analyses, among 49 patients who were suspected of Do n syndrome and referred to the Cytogenetic Laboratory, Institute of Reproductive Medicine a A Population, Seoul National University, for 6 months from January 1989 to June 1989.
Among 34 patients with Down syndrome, 28(82.4%) had 21-trisomy, 3(8.8%) had tran. - location, 2(5.9%) had mosaicism of normal and 21-trisomy cell lines and 1(2.9%) had both 21-trisomy and translocation.
